My First Wrap Job

I did some de-chroming this weekend:

I’ll probably do the grill chrome next but leave the chrome stripe in the middle. Wrapping is more fun than I expected and may have awoken something in me...

I wrap convention centers for shows, escalators and stuff, I’ve never worked on a car with a heat gun etc...

How hard is it to do? I’ve been wanting to do something like this for quite a while now:

Not all that hard, and I’m getting better at a pretty increased rate. I almost want to re-do the first trim ring I did because If I look reaaaaaly closely I can tell where my mistakes are behind the trim. Yeah, I’m like that.

As for doing it, I bought some stuff on eBay called Vvivid. No wetting or anything beforehand and very movable/pliable on its own. I’m just using a hair dryer and it gets it really stretchy pretty fast. I’m not using a squeegee or anything to get the bubbles out, just my thumb (which is quite sore) and stretching the wrap over the edge. Works pretty well!

The back looks good but I never really liked the idea of blacking the trim around the headlights. Makes it look like it has been punched in the face to me. I’m thinking for mine I am going to dip the chrome bumper trim in black and add the aero kit grille and bumper insert.

So how much did it cost? Did you have to get lots of extra material in case of false starts and redo? How much time did it take?

$35 for 3'x5' roll with the idea I’d do the large grill piece as well. I did get extra just because I had no idea how much and how often I’d eff it up (which I did completely on my first try). You also end up with A LOT of waste, but $35 and about 4 hours over 2 evenings is WAY better than paying around $350-400 for black trim pieces online.
